U.K. Customer Kevin Pilling Test Runs His New 4.2-Litre Engine Using E-TORQUE’s Cylinder Head

This is a video showing a 4.7-litre stroker engine built by one of our UK customers, Kevin Pilling. The video shows a test run prior to dyno testing the engine. Notice how easily it starts up for the first time! Great build, Kevin!

Reduction in Mass and a Huge Increase in Strength

Kevin wrote telling that the E-TORQUE-specified Carrillo™ piston-and-rod combination is 1,265 grams and the original Jaguar equivalents are 1,710 grams. That is a 26% reduction in mass with a huge increase in strength! On such a long stroke engine, reducing mass is very important considering the piston speed these engines see.

Piston Size and Spark Reduction

Kevin chose pistons that provide a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Normally, this would be risky for an engine running on pumped gas. This isn’t however a problem for Kevin’s engine because he bought the E-TORQUE Twin Spark Ignition System™.

This reduces spark advance by 9 to 10 degrees, which has the same effect as retarding the timing. This is what you would do if your engine started to ping from bad gasoline. Due to the two sparks, Kevin’s engine doesn’t need that extra spark advance because the duration of the explosion in the combustion chamber is happening much faster.
